The project entails a series of actions and public iniatiatives in the Turin area:
Collaboration with local associations and institutions
Working groups, workshops and public events to raise awareness on the topics of the project and work out proposals to implement gender equal spaces in the city of Turin.
2. The inclusive city - Workshops in middle and high schools.
Focus on:
Space, language and gender discrimination:
1. the persistence of implicit and explicit gender stereotypes;
2. how they are conveyed by language;
3. how they impact on women's fruition of urban space by reinforcing prejudices and forms of discrimination, and by limiting women's safety (case studies and statistical data on episodes of sexism, assault, stalking, harassment, catcalling).
Women and toponymy:
Workshops in middle and high schools, in collaboration with the Italian Association "Toponomastica Femminile":
1. analysis of the gender disparity in the naming of public space (see the statistical data on https://mappingdiversity.eu/; in Turin only 5 % of the streets named after people are named after a woman);
2. mapping of the naming of public spaces in the local territory; walking tours with explanation of distribution, meaning and implications of the naming of streets.
3. new naming proposals.
